Vietnamese food is fascinating, flavorful and nonfattening. Porcupine was just one
exotic dish encountered. Leftover quills would come in handy afterward, it is so chewy (but good.)

The only fat people you see are some children – a sad sign of the times – and westerners. Otherwise, people are reed thin.

You may (or may not) like to know that dogs are not necessarily pets here. The meat is considered a delicacy and saved for special occasions.

There are no McDonalds in Vietnam. Branches opened in a few cities, but the food was too expensive, so they closed.

One local restaurant focussed on goat – goat salad, steamed goat, barbecued goat, curry goat, sesame goat with a finale of goat hot pot, where a fondue-like setup allows you to cook bits in goat-based bouillon along with tofu, greens, cabbage, eggs and noodles.
