| Turtle Bay resort is a 15-minute bus ride from the airport, near Watamu. Its Club-Med approach is to include all drinks and full pension in the price. No doubt, they lost money on me on the free sparkling wine. German and British are heard most often. The staff must wonder at the way white people are built, as most guests are more-than-flabby and wrinkled. The only African family who showed up were a minority in their own country. By the weekend there were several Indian families. The Kenyan staff and waiters are pleasant and easy-going, much like the bordering ocean. Snorkeling isn't spectacular, but the water is oh-so-warm and gentle. Forget the Atlantic and its knock-down waves. I'll take the Indian Ocean with rolling ripples for a surface and barely-there salt content. |
