It's already 90 degrees outside, and these guys are bleaching silk over a wood fire.

Inevitably your driver takes you to commercial craft outlets. This one said he has 300 families working for him, but only about 20 on his sweat shop premises (poor lighting, no fans). Awful conditions. The fellows bleach and dye over steaming pots heated on fires, when outside temperature was already reaching the unbearable. The next silk business had better conditions—open rooms with fans circulating the air, well lit and spacious— products included more contemporary designs, so I bought a scarf. After that, I just said no, I don't want to go to any more of these places. You gotta put your foot down...even if it's in cow dung.
