Arriving early Friday afternoon, I had the chance to wander about – one vestige of Normand architecture, prettier than the next (not to mention the fancy lodgings for horses who come to take part in races, dressage and auctions at Deauville's two hippodromes). This is the entrance to the trés chic Hotel Barrière which gives directly onto the beach on the other side.
