Trinidad casa host Kiano walked me to La Caiba - Pabla Piz Gini 263. Caiba is the name of the 500-year-old tree that stars in the setting (pictured). The first time I went there was only one glass of white wine left and no shrimp, although the menu listed a half dozen shrimp dishes. However, the lobster in tomato/pepper sauce was the best dish so far in Cuba. A fruit plate and tomato/cucumber/lettuce salad preceded the main course, along with a sort of cracker and garlic tomato sauce for spread. The second time I went there were refills of white wine, and the soup course was included.

Baracoa's food is the best - slosh coconut milk sauce on anything and it's de-lish in my opinion. A woman from Montpellier (you pay attention when a French person says a restaurant is good) had found El Buen Subor - Calito Garcia #134 and walked me to it (you have to know about it; it's not on the main drag). Buen Subor had passable Chilean white wine and Alberto, a waiter who spoke good English and wanted to talk after hours, reason enough to return multiple times. Otherwise, I would eat at Le Boulevard down the street from the main square – excellent octopus in tomato sauce and risotto with onions and cheese.
