April timing is propitious—cool sea breezes and a lax pace. I wouldn't want to come in the summer when it must be terribly hot and crowded. Temperatures were warm enough at mid day to enjoy the sun, although the water is cold (at least for me, not an ocean swimmer even in hot temperatures). A couple of days were chilly and windy.

Not everything is open so early in the year, such as the Gorge of Samaris (not the one pictured; I just happened onto this one coming back from the southern part of the island). Usually the popular Samaris Gorge opens April 10, but this year rains put off accessibility. I also wanted to go to the south coast of the island and take boats to different ports where there are no roads, but the boats weren't operating yet.

Still, I love the serendipity of trips like this. I prefer the limitations of the off season to competing with crowds.
