As long as I had the car, I went to the south part of the island via the mountainous coastal road. Hairpin turns are too mild a term...more like dreadlock twists. Roads narrowed to hardly enough space for one car to pass when it came to little settlements along the way (Sfinari, Kampos, Amigdalokefali, Plokamiana in the Kisamos area). No railings, just freefall space on the outside...and marvelous views of the coast. Occasionally, goats block the road (when it's not goats, it's sheep!).   j_dr_twists
